This sheltered bay with its crystal clear water and unique lava finger rock has been recognized as one of the best diving and snorkelling spots in Madeira Island. During the year, there are frequent visit of a friendly monk seal, a protected species in Madeira's Marine Reserves.
With year-round water temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees it is always swimming season under the watchful eyes of the lifeguards.
A lava finger in the middle of the bay measuring about 70m wide and 30m deep projects into the sea making it an ideal area for snorkelling and diving.
Tropical fish like parrot fish, puffer fish, trumpet fish, moray eels, octopuses and sea horses can be seen even when snorkelling.
The Diving Manta Diving Center is located here and provides not only snorkeling gear, diving equipment, but also provides the appropriate courses.
You can explore the entire marine park and the bay with rental sea-kayaks. (PS: Motor boats, jet skis and other motorized vehicles are not allowed inside the marine reserve - only the diving boat is allowed to approach the bay for pick-up / drop-off purposes when diving in other locations.)
