Our group had 48 keen mixed golfers so I was really rather disappointed that the yellow tees were the tees of the day each day as many of them were on the ladies blue tee areas and did not give a fair competition with the ladies playing blues of the red tee areas. Surely if we were the predominant users of the course that week then the tees should be set to give a fair challenge (especially as several of us were low handicappers). Several par 5 's were reachable in two (e.g drive & rescue got 8" away from an albatross; another was a drive and a 9 iron). The issue was compounded by the fairways being very burnt up so the ball ran for ever (often across the entire width of the fairway from where one hit the ball, then rolled into a bunker. Not impressed at all and a bit Mickey Mouse were the words expressed by several. I do believe that in other years this group have toured at Palheiro earlier in the year and the course was green, lush and with no run - but it rained a lot!! Maybe somewhere in between these weather conditions is the right time to play Palheiro golf course.
If you want to 'switch off' and ' get away from it all' , Casa Velha is for you!
Amazing scenery, gardens, views and the food & wine is excellent as well!!!
This is a lovely quiet hotel set in glorious countryside. It is very popular with golfers and has an extensive golf course overlooking beautiful views. This hotel never seems crowded even when full and the staff are always friendly and helpful. It is quiet and very comfortable and has an outdoor pool and spa with a warm indoor pool. The courtesy mini bus makes Funchal easily accessible. We have visited on four occasions over the years and hope to return.
We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was a fantastic experience. We could not fault this villa. Friendly staff, fantastic food and lovely relaxing atmosphere.
